Allesandro Zuek Simonetti, NewYork 2009

“Death is in our world. That's what we see”. For architect Gerardo Sineri, death is everywhere. The Sicilian fresco from the 15th century entitled “The Triumph of Death” - located at Palazzo Albatelli in Palermo - was the starting point for three different artists: Michele Ciacciofera, Alessandro Zuek Simonetti and Gerardo Sineri. It provided an opportunity for all three to question the meaning of death in today’s world. All three artists are using different media to illustrate their unique perspective, such as painting, photography and sculpture. Common to all artists is their reflection on the timeliness and fragility of beauty,  and their desire to preserve and protect beauty in the face of death. Their works question how we deal with death in our everyday lives, whether as prisoner in the case of Ciacciofera or as a victim of war with Sineri.
